The war for Cyprus is over before it begins, but Othello’s troubles have only just started. A celebrated Moorish general whose service has earned him a precarious place in Venice, Othello has secretly married Desdemona, the Duke’s daughter. Iago, enraged that Othello promoted Cassio above him, sets out to poison his trust in his wife. As Iago’s lies take hold, Othello becomes convinced that Desdemona has betrayed him, setting in motion a spiral of jealousy and vengeance that ends in tragedy.
